IPC

IPC (also known as International Publishing Corporation)is a consumer magazine and publisher in the UK,sells over 350million magazines each year.              

With more than 60 iconic media brands, IPC creates content for multiple platforms, across print, online, mobile, tablets and events. They reach over 20 million UK adults almost two thirds of UK women and over 40% of UK men. Their award winning portfolio of websites reaches over 25 million global users every month.

History 

IPC was formed in 1963.George Newnes,Odhams Press and  Fleetway Publication, they came together as a group to form the International Publishing Corporation.In 1968 IPC magazines were created. All of the 3 magazine companies had their own histories as they had been founded in 1881, 1890 and 1880.

There are 5 divisions of the IPC 

  • IPC Connect-IPC Connect is IPC Media's mass market women's division with a range of brands that provide powerful reach. 
  • IPC Inspire-IPC Inspire is IPC's men's division. Its portfolio of 38 brands covers a huge spectrum of interests and includes famous names from Country life and The Field to Nuts and NME
  • IPC Southbank-IPC Southbank is the upmarket women's division, focusing on the three key markets of Fashion, Women's Lifestyle and Home Interest.
  • IPC Advertising-IPC Advertising offers clients and agencies access to IPC Media's unparalleled range of over 60 brands.
  • IPC Marketing Force-Marketforce is the link between publishers and retailers, providing a comprehensive range of circulation and distribution services for the IPC portfolio.
IPC produces magazines that target everyone, both male and females magazines but women essentially as their target audience. Most of their magazines like the ones in the IPC connect division focus on Fashion, Women's lifestyle,Home interest. They have associated with Marie Claire, Look, Ideal home, woman and and the popular magazine NME. 
        They have a lot of knowledge and understanding of how a successful music magazine should be like. I think that the types of genres of music/ types they are likely to publish would be ones that are currently popular. Them keeping up to date and relevant, means that they are more likely to entice a bigger audience.
        An alternative publisher for a new magazine could Bauer.Its part of a division of the Bauer Media Group, It is also Europe's largest privately owned publishing group.The group is worldwide and offers 300magazines in 15 countries, as well as TV and audio stations ."Bauer Media is a multi-platform UK-based media Group consisting of many companies collected around two main divisions – Magazines and Radio - widely recognised and rewarded as being industry innovators". It has a lot of knowledge of the music industry, because of this it is likely to be able to run a music magazine efficiently.
